Disney Partners with OpenAI to Integrate Iconic Characters into AI Tools
Disney and OpenAI have inked a three-year licensing deal that will bring over 200 characters from Disney, Star Wars, Pixar, and Marvel to OpenAI's image and video generation platforms. The agreement includes a $1 billion investment by Disney into OpenAI, signaling the entertainment giant's strategic push into artificial intelligence.
Starting early next year, ChatGPT users will gain access to iconic figures like Darth Vader and Mickey Mouse for content creation. Disney also plans to feature Sora-generated videos on its Disney+ streaming service, potentially attracting younger audiences through AI-driven engagement.
CEO Bob Iger framed the MOVE as essential participation in AI's explosive growth rather than passive observation. "We see this as our way in," Iger told CNBC, emphasizing Disney's intent to shape technological disruption rather than be overtaken by it.
